The Resource Newsletter - Oct & Nov 2012
For Microsoft Dynamics GP Customers

Dear lead.firstnamecontact.firstname,

Fourth quarter is officially upon us and there are less than 90 days left in 2012. Instead of scrambling to do a lot of things quickly, take a step back and analyze your situation before you proceed. This will help you plan for the rest of the year. Once you know where you are, the stage is set to push for more! Here are a few tips to keep in mind as the end of the year approaches...
  1. Get Ready for Year-End in Microsoft Dynamics® GP
The Resource Group offers Year-End training classes to make your year-end close smooth. Check out our classes in December for year-end closing.

  2. Plan When Your Upgrade Will Happen
If you have not scheduled your upgrade yet, start making your plans now to ensure you are on a supported version. Plus, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 releases on December 12, 2013. Email us for more information on upgrading your system.

  3. Start Planning Goals for 2013
Many businesses are changing processes to become more efficient and to adapt to the market. This change may require you to change processes in Microsoft Dynamics GP. Take time to plan your revenue growth as well as how your systems in place might need to change to accommodate that growth.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Tip
Use Print Edit Lists
in Microsoft Dynamics GP to Reduce Payroll Errors

One of the most common Payroll posting errors occurs when a new Department/Position/Pay Code combination is processed that was not previously accounted for in the Payroll Posting Accounts Setup window. Using Payroll edit lists helps you identify this scenario and gives you the opportunity to either edit on the fly for the current posting, or go back and fix the posting accounts setup for future payroll runs.

How to Print Edit Lists in Payroll

Go to the Administration Pane – SETUP-POSTING-POSTING. Choose Payroll for Series and Computer Checks for Origin. Mark the “PPR” reports.

A pre-posting payroll report will print for you after Calculate Checks is run during the Payroll process.
In addition, you can go to the Payroll Pane and under TRANSACTIONS-PAYROLL, choose the Posting Edit List option.

This allows you to view the accounts/amounts about to be posted. Even better, any of the account numbers can be changed right here for this posting. You would then need to update the Payroll Posting Accounts Setup to fix it for future pay runs.

Fun Fact

The first documented computer “bug” was an actual bug. A moth trapped in a relay was discovered by Grace Hopper inside of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University on September 9th, 1947.
