The Resource Newsletter - August 2013
For Microsoft Dynamics GP Users

How is Your Year Shaping Up?
We are already more than half-way through the year.  Now is the time to evaluate how far the business has come, as well as take a look at what lies ahead.  It is too easy to create strategic goals that are forgotten or abandoned when business kicks up as the year progresses. It is important to periodically take note of how far we’ve all come in achieving our goals and how far we have to go. Whether your goals are to grow your customer list or reach certain sales figures, there should be a plan in place that helps you reach those goals. You may have milestone dates or specific activities that need to be completed in the proper order in order to get close to your strategic goals. Have you hit those targets? Are you on the right track?

As your Microsoft Dynamics partner, we strive to make sure that your business solutions are working for you. If you aren’t confident that you are heading in the right direction, then it may be time to tweak your business management solution or consider an operational review. As your business grows and changes, your original goals and processes may have changed as well.  Let us help you review your Microsoft Dynamics GP solution to make sure it aligns with your business goals, not hindering them.

Contact The Resource Group to help you reach your business goals.  Call 877.287.4760 or email info@resgroup.com to schedule your operational review today.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 H2 Release

Microsoft recently announced their plan to release and update for Microsoft Dynamics® GP 2013 in the last quarter of this year. Update enhancements will be made to the core software, as well as to the Business Analyzer. Updates are important for improving various features and functions and are an essential element to keeping your solutions working at top capacity.

As noted in “

In addition, users will be able to hide the navigation tree on SmartList, giving them a full screen of data to view much easier. There are also exciting enhancements for the Business Analyzer including connections through the Azure Service Bus and a Windows 8 Phone App.

The “Feature of the Day” blog posts will soon be out on the Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog site, as well as other helpful information about using Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Tip
Reconcile Bank Reconcilation to General Ledger

A common challenge for Microsoft Dynamics GP users is reconciling differences between the sub-ledger balances and the balances for the associated GL accounts.  The Reconcile to GL routine, added in Dynamics GP version 10.0, automated much of the work required to reconcile differences for Receivables Management and Payables Management.  Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 added the Bank Reconciliation module to the Reconcile GL routine, helping users analyze the differences in checkbook balances in the Checkbook Balance Inquiry window and the associated General Ledger cash account for the check book.  Each reconciliation is specific to a defined checkbook.

New Measures to Prevent Fraud and Protect Investors

The SEC is on a mission to detect and reduce activities that involve fraud and financial misconduct which are putting investors at risk each day. According to “
Fraud in financial reporting, auditing among targets of new SEC initiatives,” posted by Ken Tysiac on JournalofAccountancy.com, the SEC has created three new initiatives to target and reduce opportunities for fraud.

The Financial Reporting and Audit Task Force will look for improper financial reporting and will support the prosecution of misleading financial disclosures. The Microcap Fraud Task Force was created to target improper trading and activities in securities that are issued by microcap companies. Finally, the Center for Risk and Quantitative Analytics (CRQA) will take a look at high-risk behaviors and transactions and will monitor the marketplace for signs of inappropriate activities. In addition, the CRQA will support the investigations that will likely result when red flags are found.

Proper financial reporting and management of a business’ finances, whether public or privately held, is serious and best not left to weak technology.

High Altitude Leadership
What Science and Death-Zones Teach Us About Success by
Don Schmincke

Profitability and market penetration improve with strategic advantage, superior management teams, and high-performance cultures. But lack of alignment, speed, and accountability frustrate many executives in achieving these results. Don's uniquely refreshing perspective addresses this dilemma using scientific, yet provocative, alternatives to modern leadership hype. The secrets unconcealed with anthropology, evolutionary genetics, and death-zone altitudes will shock you. Based on his books, "The Code of the Executive" and “High Altitude Leadership”, Don irreverently and humorously dispels “program-of-the-month” theories and replaces them with revolutionary, controversial insights:

  • Why leadership programs fail to develop great leadership.
  • The hidden threat to profits and why it’s avoided by mainstream experts.
  • The seduction that causes strategies to fail and what to do about it.
  • Why followers don’t follow leaders – and what they’re really following.
  • Why change programs fall short and the genetic solution for performance.
