The SEC is Getting Serious on Accounting Fraud
For the last few years, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been occupied with the fallout from subprime mortgages, collateralized debt obligations, and other headline-making activities that resulted in the most recent financial crisis.

Now the SEC has set its sights on accounting fraud and inappropriate financial reporting with a newly founded task force. According to “Accounting Fraud Gets Sexy at the SEC,” posted on by David M. Katz, the change in focus is significant. In 2012, the SEC opened a mere 124 cases of financial fraud and issuer disclosure investigations, which was greatly lower than the 304 cases from 2006 and 228 cases in 2007.

Now is the time to make sure your finances are in order before the SEC tells you otherwise. Monitoring your accounting or other business management solutions can give you the peace of mind that you are collecting and maintaining the data in accordance with general accounting standards.
