Business Insights - October 2012

Dear lead.firstnamecontact.firstname,

Fourth quarter is officially upon us and there are less than 100 days left in 2012. I don’t mean to scare you, but it is a fact. Instead of scrambling to do a lot of things quickly, take a step back and analyze your situation before you proceed. This will help you plan for the rest of the year. Once you know where you are, the stage is set to push for more! Here are a few tips to keep in mind as the end of the year approaches so you don’t get spooked…

Go Shopping: Fall is a great time to update the businesses’ computer and business supplies. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you can’t lose.

Use the Holidays to Your Advantage:
The Holidays are a hidden opportunity for most businesses. They create a good reason to reach out to your customer base and while you’re at it, ask for referrals.

Get Ready for Year-End Taxes: Tax season always creeps up on all of us. Make sure the filing system is prime, the accounting software is up to date, and everything is ready for the year-end analysis.

Get on the Phone: Devote a few days to calling those accounts you haven’t talked to in the last year. Some valuable opportunities are bound to come to light.

Once you break it down, the fourth quarter really isn’t all that scary. Now you can save the really frightening things for Halloween! Boo!

No Crystal Ball Necessary For Success, Just a Great Integration

The ability to identify trends in customer buying habits and accurately forecast inventory needs or future sales can be correlated to the ability to collect and analyze current and historical data. Your enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution should provide the level of integration between the front office and the back warehouse so that all of your business data is communicating seamlessly. A powerful ERP solution can take customer order data, through real-time labor and expenses, and generate an invoice with as few data corrections or keystrokes as is possible.

In “How to Prepare for Data Integration Investments That Drive Business Value,” by Linda Rosencrance, posted on, experts Dan Power of Hub Solution Designs Inc. and Dane Koepke of Green Beacon Solutions LLC discuss the importance of data integration.

The more data you can collect from your current and historical business operations, the better you can make the decisions that will drive growth. No need to depend upon the “accuracy” of the crystal ball method. Contact The Resource Group at or 425.277.4760 to discuss what it will take to integrate all of your critical business data into a single ERP software solution

What's In A Logo?

More than you may think! Microsoft recently changed their logo for the first time since 1987. With upcoming changes and enhancements to Microsoft products, they felt it was a good time to express “newness” in the Microsoft logo.

I personally love the newest logo as it speaks “Microsoft” to me. This says a lot about what a logo can do for a company and a brand. It’s the face of a company and should represent everything the company is and does. If it’s time to update your own logo,
here are three things to consider when creating or changing the face of your business:

Fun Fact

The first documented computer “bug” was an actual bug. A moth trapped in a relay was discovered by Grace Hopper inside of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University on September 9th, 1947. The actual bug is on display at the Smithsonian Institute.
